Often when discussing our health we neglect the topic of our mental health. How beneficial can it really be for us to be physically fit but mentally debilitated. When we're mentally exhausted due to stress, depression, or anxiety it's our responsibility to discover the root in order to begin the healing process.
Just like people go year to year being physically sick, the same is with the mind. "We often neglect what we can't noticeably see."
Mental health is sometimes looked upon as the thing that we all know we need to have a fully functioning life, but don't want to address because of what others may assume about us. But honestly, I don't know one person who hasn't endured something emotionally or physically that didn't have a mental toll on them. Even in sickness, especially a life threatening one, can cause all kinds of mental and emotional strain. So although our top priority is to remedy what's causing us immediate pain, it's in the mind where calm is needed in order to process the information received and how to deal with it rationally.
So although much can be said concerning our mental well being, we can all acknowledge that the very first step that can be taken is a mental examination. Sit with yourself and face what's been ailing you because you're not well unless all of you is well, mind, body, and spirit. In some instances, prayer can be the most effective tool in acknowledging what has been bothering you and releasing it to God by speaking your concerns and leaving them in His hands with thanksgiving. Philippians 4:6 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God." I underlined thanksgiving because in my own personal experiences, thanking Him triggers a release. It's also a way of saying I trust you with every facet of my being so I"m thanking you in advance.
